Pet Photoshoots:
Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect after the inquiry?

After contacting me, I will be in touch shortly after to discuss your vision and ideas. This is the time for me to get to know you, your pet, and your story together! I’ll be sending a short questionnaire so I can learn more about your pet and his/her preferences in particular. Based on those answers, we’ll talk about potential shoot locations, discuss dates, length of shoot, etc., that will work best for both of you. Once decided, I’ll send over a simple contract and invoice to secure the shoot. I require a 50% deposit up-front, which is refundable up to two-weeks before the shoot. The rest will be due one week before the shoot and is non-refundable. In the event of severe inclement weather, I’ll be in touch to discuss rescheduling. A week before the shoot, I’ll send an email reminder of all we’ve discussed, as well as the invoice for the remaining 50%.

Specific to pet photoshoots, I highly recommend arriving to the shoot location 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time, or visiting the location on a different day prior to the shoot. This is so your furry friend can get used to the sights, smells, and distractions of the area (including me) and be more comfortable come shoot-time. If your pet is high-energy, this is also a great time to play fetch or another form of exercise so that your buddy is less restless when posing.

Then it’s your time to shine!! My ultimate goal (obviously other than to showcase your pet at his/her best) is for you both to have fun and create unforgettable memories!

What if my pet doesn’t like other people or animals?

My goal is to make you and your pet feel as comfortable as possible. During our correspondance, I will ask questions to learn more about your pet, and offer recommendations on shoot locations. If not choosing to have the photoshoot on your own property, the locations I suggest are always public, but I can work with you on days/times where less traffic is anticipated. I also recommend you take your pet to the set location at least half an hour before the shoot, to get him/her acclimated to the environment. The 10-minute meet-and-greet before each shoot is another way to get your pet comfortable with my presence before the shoot begins.

What if my pet is too distracted, scared, or hyper during the shoot?

Again, my goal is to make each photoshoot comfortable for you and your pet, and that you both have fun together! If you have a furry friend who is a bit anxious or hyper in public places, I recommend opting to have a comfortable shoot in your own backyard. Otherwise I can work with you on choosing a public place during a time that may be less crowded. It may be helpful to visit the chosen location of the shoot frequently beforehand. Allowing your pet time in the environment before the shoot will help him/her be more relaxed during the shoot.

Should I be in the photoshoot with my pet?

I am happy to take photos of just your pet, but I believe the most special moments come from your pet’s unique interaction with you! I aim to capture photos that best showcase your bond together—whether that be playing fetch, hiking a trail, relaxing in the grass, or showing off tricks! Before each photoshoot, I will be in contact with you to learn more of your pet’s personality, your connection together, and any specifics shots that you are looking for. Bring whoever would like to be in the photoshoot with your pet.

What should I wear if I want to be in the photoshoot?

Depending on the location, season, and fur color of your pet, I can give recommendations on the color of your clothing that will help you and your furry friend look your best! Otherwise, you should wear anything you are comfortable in, and that best describes you. For your pet: collars, bandanas, sweaters, etc. are welcomed for a variety of shots!

What if the weather is bad the day of my photoshoot?

I will be monitoring the weather prior to your scheduled shoot day, but Colorado’s weather can change by the minute. I am still able to take high-quality photos in light drizzles or snow (these sometimes make unique adventure photos!), but unfortunately pouring rain and heavy snow will show unsightly white streaks in photos. If there is a chance of inclement weather the day of your shoot, I will be in contact with you a few days beforehand to discuss our options and weather windows. I do require cancellations to be made at least 48 hours before the day of your shoot, so please keep this in mind when planning. Should I decide the weather is not workable within the 48-hour window of your shoot, I will offer to reschedule or refund your deposit.

My pet is leash trained. Won’t that affect the photos?

Many pets are not able to be off-leash, especially in a public area. Thanks to tools like photoshop, removing leashes from photos won’t be a problem. I will work with you and your pet for poses that will be easy to remove leash lines!

When/where will I receive my digital images?

After the photoshoot, I will choose the best shots, edit them, and send a viewing link to your email. Depending on the pricing package you choose, you will be able to pick a select quantity of photos from these edits. These selects will be delivered to your email in the form of high-quality, digital photos that you can share with anyone. Please allow up to two weeks for this process. I also offer the option for high-definition metal, canvas, or framed prints. I’ll be in touch after sending digitals to see if this is something you’re interested in!
